Which stats actually make a difference to gameplay?

I regard speed, stamina and ball control to be by far the most important base skills for a player. aside from the occassional shooting or tackling in the camp mix, my youth train nothing but these three base skills until 7 and if unmaxed i begin to specialize them toward a position.

Ball control is too often undervalued by managers in the game and to the benefit of folk who dont. no point in having a 10 ball tackler who then maxes in 6 speed. whats the use in all that tackling too if he cant control the ball and loses it back to the striker in the box?

If a player has speed, stamina, and control then he will be an asset regardless what skills he maxes early in. tackling make him a defensive mid, if he maxes in shooting, make him an attacking mid, etc.
